SOUNDBOKS is an emerging young audio tech company and aspiring lifestyle brand. You may have seen us at your favorite music festival, street party, in the Sahara Desert or on top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We build the loudest, most durable, and arguably the coolest Bluetooth speaker on the market.

Growth is not something we offer, it’s who we are. Learning is at the centre of everything, people will teach you what they know and the involvement is yours to take. We’re talking a real-time, on-the-job, experiential approach to learning, and it’s our ultimate goal that you leave the office everyday having learned something new.

With over 80 employees in Los Angeles and Copenhagen, SOUNDBOKS is equal parts seasoned professionals and passionate unconventionals. We’ve got an amazing thing going, and it’s only getting better.

ROLE FIRMWARE ENGINEER

TEAM PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

HOURS FULL TIME

LOCATION COPENHAGEN

START DATE DECEMBER 1ST 2021

The Product Development team is a team of talented young people as well as very experienced professionals that proudly develop the backbone of our company. We creatively challenge the potential of loudspeakers by mixing technology and user friendly designs in a way that makes us frontrunners within our categories. We explore new technologies and like to be at the forefront of what is possible in order to deliver the very best products. Customer value comes first, always, but we are close to the business and work towards commercial targets as well.

As our new firmware engineer, you will become a key contributor to the team with a huge impact on current and future products. For the latter, you will be a key stakeholder in products from early concepting and throughout the product lifetime.

Let’s try to make it just a little more tangible for you. Below is what we expect you to be spending your time on with us:

  • You'll be a key contributor for outlining, specifying and implementing the future firmware platform which will enable SOUNDBOKS to expand the product portfolio across various products.

  • You’ll be responsible for specifying software-related hardware components and developing multidisciplinary firmware (microcontrollers, Bluetooth modules, battery management systems, digital signal processors, etc.) in cooperation with the Firmware Team and the entire Product Development Team.

  • You’ll be responsible for the firmware in a range of products from early concepting to end-of-life. This includes in-market firmware upgrades.

  • You’ll develop tools for testing and verifying the firmware itself. Further, you will develop software testing tools which include unit tests and production test modes for verification and trimming of each individual product at our manufacturing partners in Asia.

In order to become a success in this role, we believe that your profile should be aligned with the bullets listed below. However, we acknowledge that success can take many forms, so please do apply even if you don’t tick all the boxes.

  • You possess core competencies in C-programming, Bluetooth integration and preferably also ARM and PIC.

  • You are a product oriented team player and a natural problem solver who is not afraid to seek out new solutions on your own.

  • You bring a minimum of 5 years experience from working in embedded software development.

  • You have a background in consumer- or professional audio products or alternatively a keen personal interest for audio products.

  • Experience with Agile development and preferably Jira.

  • It would also be a great advantage if you bring experience from working with Bluetooth and/or other wireless audio transfer technologies.

Okay, so hopefully you’re well on track to understand why we need you to step onboard the SOUNDBOKS journey. Just in case you’re the curious type and would like a little more information, here’s what we expect to happen in your first 12 months with us:

During the first 3 months:

  • You have got familiar with our current firmware platform - MPLab Harmony 2 from Microchip - and understood the limitations of it.

  • You have developed a good relationship with the Product Development team, gained a good understanding of the development cycle and what key projects and challenges lie ahead for you.

  • You have taken ownership and started implementing two or more customer feature upgrades to be implemented in the current platform for products already in the market.

During the first 6 months:

  • You have been fully integrated in the current ongoing process of updating our current firmware to Harmony 3.

  • Three or more customer feature upgrades have been developed by you and deployed to the customers of current products via our (already available) online accessible firmware upgrade tool.

During the first 12 months:

  • Together with the firmware team, you have outlined the clean-sheet future firmware platform for our speaker products.

  • You continue to co-develop good practices in our firmware development flow together with the Firmware Team (unit testing, deployment process, software architecture flow, E2E automated test station, etc).

Intrigued? At SOUNDBOKS you’ll find yourself a part of a community. We realize that growth is a process and we don’t expect you to go through it alone. Actually, we guarantee that you won’t have to. We work together in order to work smarter, we inspire each other to be better, and we never forget that every member of the team is responsible for our success.

So, if you’re tired of all of the noise in the job market, we’d love to hear from you. This may be the coolest job you ever have.

For questions about the role or SOUNDBOKS in general, please reach out to our Talent Acquisition Lead, Frederik Sassi, at sassi@soundboks.com or +45 28 76 87 02.
