Full professorship(s) in energy policies and systems

The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for professorship positions in energy policies and systems.

The position is divided evenly between research and teaching activities, and the successful candidate will become part of the Centre for Energy Technologies (CET) and the EngTech research section.

The professorship is a full-time and permanent position starting on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement.

Job description

BTECH is dedicated to excellence in business development and technology and offers study programmes in these fields. The department has – given its location in the midwestern part of Denmark with its long tradition of renewable energy development – a strong focus on energy policies and systems. Through the Centre for Energy Technologies, we will be instrumental in forming the future energy landscape in Denmark and beyond, and for this reason, we are looking for eminent candidates who can strengthen our research profile and engage with stakeholders in the energy sector.

The successful applicant is furthermore expected to teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level. Relevant courses include Energy Demand and Consumption, Energy Supply and Production, Energy Engineering and Innovation, Sustainability in a Business Development Perspective as well as general engineering-focused theory of science.

Your qualifications

Applicants should have a strong academic background as associate professor or full professor.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate holds the following qualifications:

  • A significant record of strong research, as evidenced by publications in highly reputed international journals (according to the Danish BFI list).
  • A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future high-level, impactful research.
  • A track record of excellence in teaching, course management and supervision of topics relevant for our study programmes.
  • A commitment to teaching that provides the students with relevant competences as well as the ability to reflect critically on the topics.
  • A commitment to be involved with businesses and the broader society and to prioritise dialogue with practitioners.
  • A track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community combined with a commitment to contribute to a vibrant work environment at our department.
  • A track record and willingness to attract external research funding.
  • A track record of demonstrated scientific leadership reflected in an ability to manage research projects, editorial board service, supervision of PhD students, industry collaboration, international collaboration, etc.
Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.

Permanent employment as professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course as well as the Blended Learning – Go Online course provided by Centre for Educational Development. If you have not completed the courses prior to employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five-year period.

BTECH is located in the business-oriented and entrepreneurial city of Herning. The department excels in business and engineering disciplines and emphasises the importance of company collaborations. We have around 1,800 students and close to 100 faculty and staff. Each year, approximately 500 students are involved in company projects in more than 250 companies ranging from SMEs to leading multinationals. Our incubator Business Factory launches 15 new companies each year.

We influence society through business development and technology. For this reason, many research projects are conducted in close collaboration with industry on the basis of new data and new technologies. These projects are generously supported by ERC, H2020, the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Danish Industry Foundation, among others.
