Fundraiser in Food Research (951199)

The Department of Food Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Aarhus University (AU), is seeking an experienced fundraiser. We are looking for a proactive strategic thinker who likes to work with highly engaged and motivated staff in an innovative and dynamic working environment, sees significant opportunities in food research and who wants to create successful collaborations to secure external funding to underpin research activities in the Department. We are particularly interested in an individual who has had experience and success in research fundraising from private funds and / or EU funding systems. 
 
The Department has 100 staff, of which approx. 25% are senior researchers; the Department currently secures approx. 60% of its annual revenue from external sources, the majority of which is from competitive grants. 
 
The Position 
As a fundraiser you will work in close collaboration with the senior researchers, the Department Leadership Team and the University Research Support Office. You will provide information on opportunities for research funding and status on current initiatives, develop a relevant network and attend key meetings / workshops. You will primarily partner the Department staff to develop successful applications for external and competitive funding opportunities. As the Department’s fundraiser, you will be part of a professional network of fundraisers across the Faculty of Science and Technology and with the AU Research Support Office. Within the Department you will be aligned directly to the Head of Department. In order to become familiar with the capability in the Department, it is expected that you will participate in key meetings in the five Departmental Science Team, and be a member of the Research Committee in the Department. 
 
Responsibilities and tasks 
You will: 

  • secure collaborative research teams in partnership with staff or Leadership in the Department, including leading researchers in other Departments / organizations and across national boundaries in response to funding opportunities 
  • ensure development and submission of quality applications to deadlines and increase the overall success rate of Department funding initiatives 
  • focus on large strategic initiatives for the Danish national funds and private funds and EU applications  
  • identify strategically important initiatives to secure new funding and to communicate these to staff, follow up and partner staff on new initiatives 
  • coordinate, facilitate and lead key meetings as related to funding initiatives 
  • influence the fundraiser position in the direction where you will be able to create the greatest success 
 
Qualifications 
The following professional and personal qualifications are required: 
  • A demonstrated track record in fundraising activities, including an ability to successfully initiate and deliver on strategic applications, preferably with experience in food research 
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities that include excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and an ability to facilitate and foster collaborative approaches  
  • Strong personal capabilities that include an ability to take responsibility, strong organizational skills, technical and professional expertise within an area of food research, an ability to be innovative, demonstrate business acumen, and to be results focussed 
  • Positive behavioural attributes that include being open and trustworthy 
  • A University degree, preferably within a food research discipline and with a doctorate degree 
  • Experience and success in research fundraising, especially with private funds and / or EU funding systems 
  • An updated knowledge of external funding opportunities in Denmark and Europe 
 
Place of Work and area of Employment 
The area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.  
 
The place of work can be located at Aarhus with an office at Agro Food Park, or at one of the two Department sites: AU-Aarslev campus, Kirstinebjergvej 10, DK-5792 Aarslev, or AU-Foulum, Blichers Alle 20, 8830 Tjele, Denmark.  
 
It is expected the fundraiser will travel between the Department’s sites as needed, and also attend meetings with clients and on the AU-campus, 8000 Aarhus.
