Global Sustainability Specialist, Soil fertility and Carbon Farming - Aarhus

Are you an expert within plant science, soil fertility or carbon farming, and do you want to deliver sustainable transformations for farms as a global lead for your area of expertise within Arla?

With the recently launched Future26 strategy, Arla has truly put sustainability and climate at the core of the organisation. This involves taking big steps developing sustainable dairy production to move towards carbon net zero dairy.

To achieve our ambitious targets, we have created a new Sustainability & Agriculture Centre of Excellence. In this centre, we are looking to expand with a strong Specialist for the global organisation. The role is most likely based at our HQ in Aarhus, however the perfect candidate could also be working from other of our core market locations such as Copenhagen, Leeds, Stockholm or Düsseldorf.

Specifically, you will be working to ensure climate efficient farming in close collaboration with our key partners to ensure that we offer our farmer-owners engaging, science-based and effective products, and thus help find the right balance between sustainability and an optimal production. You will be touching upon levers such as:

  • Precise fertiliser management to reduce nitrogen surplus from feed production
  • Improved land use management to ensure better crop yields
  • Carbon farming and management of carbon rich soils
  • As Arla’s dedicated expert in your area of expertise, you will collaborate with experts in the team to ensure that our Sustainability tools, such as Arla’s Climate Check tool, are always at the forefront of science yet balancing the practical relevance for dairy farming.

You will be working closely with Data Scientists to activate one of the world’s largest climate check databases for the benefit of the green transition, creating insights to be shared with farmers and the wider community around us, and developing relevant engagement products supporting our owners on their individual sustainability journey.

    Product examples:

  • On-farm pilot projects demonstrating impact on resource efficiency and farm economy
  • Benchmarking concepts to be implemented in online tools
  • Climate tool development
  • You will participate in relevant R&D projects with external partners and universities.

    Who are you?

With your great practical and scientific background, you are eager to be part of developing the dairy industry together with our farmer owners, with the stakeholders supporting farmers and your local and global Arla colleagues.

    Moreover, you:

  • Bring strong experience from work close to dairy farmers – e.g. advisory, and you know what it takes to deliver clear and impactful communication and advise to farmers
  • Have an agricultural scientific background and strong knowledge regarding soil fertility and nutrient cycling – ideally experience with carbon farming
  • You should not be afraid of quantitative approaches and have a flair for numbers. Preferably you are interested in greenhouse gas calculations, but not necessarily need to bring experience within the area
  • You are strong in explaining and communicating about complex issues - agricultural science and data - in a (somewhat) simple and easy to understand way
  • Have the ability to work in a highly international environment
  • Speak and write English effortlessly. Other languages can be an advantage.
  • What do we offer?

Arla invests significantly in sustainability. And with sustainability at the heart of our new organisation and new Future26 strategy, we are keen to step up our support of the Arla farmer owners helping them reach our ambitious sustainability and climate targets. Now you get to come along on this exciting journey.

    Application and contact

If you want to drive innovation and help shape the industry, then seize this exciting opportunity. Please apply no later than Sunday 25 September.
