Head of Water Treatment for Industry Segment

The Head of Water Treatment for Industry Segment is a newly created Director role for an experienced leader and business development professional. The Director is responsible for executing and refining the Industry Segment Strategic Direction for 2020 and Beyond (“Strategy”),, including development and commercialization of integrated solutions for industrial water treatment customers globally. The Director will have overall responsibility for delivering to market breakthrough solutions that establish Grundfos as a global leader in water treatment solutions that integrate innovative technology, products, connectivity, digital enablers, service and business models that enable Grundfos to expand its reach and value proposition for industrial customers.

The Director will build this business within Grundfos acting as a general manager, but recognizing that the role does not include full P&L responsibility. The role is rather – on a global scale – to drive customer centric business performance in close collaboration with Grundfos regional sales organizations, Grundfos service, and other key stakeholders. This organizational set-up (segment/sales/service) constitutes the core matrix of Grundfos and therefore the Director is accountable for a significant area of global business performance, primarily ensuring that Grundfos maintains leadership and market relevance in its portfolio of offerings. The Director will be responsible for budget targets according to committed plans for the Water Treatment business.

The Director will lead a team of business developers and applications specialists, driving seamless collaboration between this team and other key stakeholder groups, including Program Management (Dosing & Disinfection, Integrated Solutions, Enabling Products, etc.) and other key stakeholders across Grundfos, ranging from Development & Engineering to Marketing. A clear success factor for the Director will be his/her ability to act as a change agent and effectively drive organizational, commercial and operational synergies to build a high growth business in a highly matrixed environment.

The Director will also be responsible for building an ecosystem in which Grundfos and the Industry Segment are an active participant. As the company strives to deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions to the market, it will be important for the director to identify and create opportunities with potential partners with whom we can collaborate to deliver complete value propositions.

The 3 primary focus areas for the Director are:

Business Development:

  • Establish business plans for positioning and performance of the business in the regional markets
  • Build collaborative ownership of the business plans ensuring growth, profitability, market leadership and customer satisfaction
  • Define the customer value proposition in collaboration with regional sales teams, keeping customer centricity and an outside-in approach at the forefront
  • Ensure business development plans are aligned with and enhance our Strategy
  • Identify potential technologies, partnerships, joint ventures or acquisitions that enable and/or accelerate the implementation of our Strategy

 

Applications Knowledge Management:

  • Support sales and growth ambitions by ensuring that the right application capabilities are defined and available in the Segment and according to the applications prioritized in our Strategy
  • Ensure that our Industrial applications expertise is proactively deployed to define future business opportunities
  • Enable continued applications support of regional sales team on high value campaigns, while building regional capacity via decentralized applications capabilities

 

Solutions Portfolio:

  • Accountable for the business justification of the solutions portfolio roadmap and offerings
  • Ensure that portfolio discussions are conducted in a fact-based, customer-centric manner
  • In cooperation with Program Management, ensure that competitive program/product plans are aligned with Strategy
  • Orchestrate solutions planning throughout the full value chain (in collaboration with Program Management, Supply Chain, E&D, Sales, Service, etc.)
  • Develop and promote new solutions for applications/customers across the Industry Segment

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate is a commercially focused executive with a solid understanding of innovation, technology and industrial organization. He/she comes with an industry background, ideally in water treatment, or experience from other industrial/technology organizations with complex product/solution portfolios. The ideal candidate will also be experienced with diverse distribution and business models. The candidate must be an excellent relationship builder who understands how a matrix organization works, and who can navigate and operate in a role bridging product/solution development, operations and markets.

Background and experience:

  • Background in water treatment is required
  • Solid experience with international industrial business development; P&L leadership experience is preferred
  • Strategic and analytical mind-set with the ability to refine and implement the strategic direction for the segment and its offerings
  • Experience driving commercial activities with an understanding of the role of specifiers, influencers and end-use customers
  • Experience working in a global matrixed organization, high growth business, or ideally both
  • First-hand experience identifying and implementing licensing agreements, partnerships, join ventures or acquisitions is preferred
  • Higher education is desirable with a Master’s degree, MBA or both

  • Robust personality with a strong team orientation, influencing and collaborating with others to deliver collective results
  • Preferably has an international background and has been based in a foreign country
