Image Analysis Specialist

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Centers for Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) and Protein Research (CPR) at the University of Copenhagen are jointly seeking applications for the position of

Image Analysis Specialist

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) addresses basic research questions in stem cell and developmental biology and has activities focused on the translation of promising basic research results into new strategies and targets for the development of new therapies for cancer and chronic diseases such as diabetes and liver failure. Learn more about DanStem at http://danstem.ku.dk/.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) promotes basic and applied research on proteins of medical relevance. The research scope spans in silico biology, proteomics, biochemistry and cell biology, and the unifying theme is the identification and functional exploration of proteins and protein pathways involved in disease mechanisms. Learn more about CPR at http://www.cpr.ku.dk.

Both DanStem and CPR are vibrant, internationally diverse, ambitious research centers, housing modern laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities located in close proximity to one another at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The setting is ideally suited for seamless exchange of expertise, material and lively scientific communication.

Advanced light microscopy is a key technology for a wide variety of research areas at DanStem and CPR. The Centers host approximately 15 research groups with 30-40 scientists regularly using applications in cellular imaging of a variety of model systems including primary and transformed cell lines, 3D cell cultures, tissues, and organisms. For these purposes, the Centers house approximately ten state-of-the-art research microscopes, including several confocal, high-content screening, and wide-field microscopes for various applications including cell-based screening, time-lapse imaging, laser-microirradiation, cell ablation, or optogenetics applications generating a demand for microscopy and bio-image analysis support. Therefore, the Centers offer research platforms in imaging and image analysis to support the continually evolving need for microscopy-based applications and to enhance synergy and scientific productivity.

We are now seeking a highly motivated and qualified quantitative image analysis specialist to work within the Imaging Research Platform at DanStem and the Protein Imaging Facility within CPR, alongside the light microscopy specialist at both platforms.

Responsibilities

The image analysis specialist works in a team with a dedicated microscopy specialist to provide service and support for multiple research projects of broad biomedical scope throughout the two research centers. The image analysis specialist at CPR and DanStem is expected to

  • Provide support and training on a variety of image analysis software packages (e.g. ScanR analysis, Metamorph, Volocity, Imaris, Image J, CellProfiler, CellCognition)

  • Guide users to identify correct software and image analysis solutions

  • Help users with analysis and graphic presentation of multidimensional data

  • Write custom scripts, macros and code to expand existing

  • Develop custom tools that solve specific image processing problems

  • Organize and participate actively in image analysis workshops (including practical demonstrations) for graduate and undergraduate students

  • Manage software purchases, installation, maintenance and updates

  • Cooperate with platform personnel and contribute to platform management

  • Network actively with the global image analysis community and stay up-to-date with current trends in the field

DanStem and CPR provide state-of-the-art computational infrastructure for image and data analysis, including multiple powerful computer workstations housed in well-spaced offices, a range of commercial software packages for image and data analysis and access to cluster computing at the Danish National Supercomputer (Computerome). Our centers enjoy excellent IT support and work closely together with the Big Data Platform at CPR for image data management.
