Write your industrial PhD with us and use your technical expertise to develop new operating schemes for our future Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) co-located with offshore wind farms. We offer a 3-year PhD project where you’ll be connected to the academia at DTU and be collaborating with some of the leading experts within the energy storage industry at Ørsted.

Overall project description
The project will investigate and define new operating algorithms for BESS co-located with offshore wind farm (OWF). The project has two main objectives: (i) minimising BESS degradation by defining new physics-based and data-driven approaches that optimise battery operation and (ii) providing stacked ancillary services to improve security of supply. The project includes deriving and validation of performance-degradation models and conducting techno-economic assessments.

To partner on this project, you:

  • have a master’s degree in electrical engineering or another relevant degree with special focus on energy storage.
  • are expected to have achieved excellent grades in your mater’s education
  • preferably have knowledge about the energy market and how the energy storage technologies can generate revenue
  • preferably have knowledge about offshore wind power plant design and grid integration
  • have personal drive combined with a structured and proactive approach to your work
  • enjoy exploring and applying innovative technologies to solve complex problems.
