Integration Lead

Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system.  Microsoft’s verticalized approach involves exciting innovations at every level, from the qubit device and quantum information plane, to the quantum-classical interface and classical compute system, all the way up to the system software, applications and global services.  Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems.

Microsoft is looking for someone to join the Quantum Hardware group and collaborate with a diverse group of engineers to bring together the components and expertise for a scalable quantum system.  You will work with physicists, hardware designers, fabrication engineers, and researchers to help make quantum computing a reality.  We are looking for a proven integration leader, engineering manager, or systems engineer to help guide the direction of technical teams across multiple initiatives. This role involves deep, hands-on technical work in a small, collaborative, environment.  The ideal candidate is as passionate about their own contribution as they are empowering and inspiring others.  This person will be responsible for contributing to the technical direction of the work based on experimental results, program needs and the input from cross-functional colleagues. The objective of this role will be to own driving the development of and monitoring the health of a full end-to-end technology development.  The ideal candidate will help lead the organizational response to technical challenges that block progress and feedback to the end-to-end development cycle.  This role will also work closely with the teams responsible for end-to-end digital data, helping identify and build the ability to capture/store and manage data/information for analysis.

Key Responsibilities include: Leveraging your interpersonal and collaboration skills to deliver results across a global team.  Strategic planning, execution, relationship development, and working with project leaders.   Knowledge and experience working with quantum scientists as well as classical engineering experts.     Solid technical depth and analytical/problem solving.      Ability to manage ambiguity and uncertainty, while driving clarity.  Work with technical engineering and program management teams to drive program priorities and provide LT-level updates and readouts on progress and challenges.    Provide input on strategic and tactical objectives for the globally-distributed team. Our team is globally distributed; while your core team will be Redmond-based, you may also manage people at remote sites on other continents.

  • An advanced degree in Electrical engineering, Physics, Applied Physics or related field.
  • Track record of technical contributions in nanofabrication technology development.
  • Experience with engineering and process management structures.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Some understanding of quantum computing and its engineering challenges.
  • Track record of making technical contributions in complex systems engineering
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing research environment.
  • Strong teamwork and coaching skills.
