Java Software Engineer (FX Trading), Copenhagen

The offer

You will be responsible for maintaining, improving and evolving several of our core Java components in addition to working closely with business stakeholders. In the team we have both in-house developed applications and systems bought from vendors. You will also work in close collaboration with our operations team to help troubleshoot and fix business critical incidents.   

The Electronic Foreign Exchange Team (e-FX) is the spearhead of Nordea Markets when it comes to operating and implementing new technologies. The team is responsible for the core technologies of the FX trading business, providing infrastructure and implementing algorithmic solutions for low latency trading, hedging and order management.   

Given Nordea’s size in the Scandinavian FX market, we are operating IT systems with very large volumes flowing through our pricing and execution systems. This poses unique and interesting challenges for a developer.   

You will be working in an agile team building out our strategic e-FX trading applications in Copenhagen. The team is working on state of the art systems to meet new challenges in an ever-changing, fast-paced business landscape. This includes pricing platforms as well as algorithmic order execution systems. Consequently, the projects that we work on are considered of key strategic importance within Nordea.   

What you’ll be doing:  

  • Hands on designing, development, and testing of backend applications  
  • Act as a key link between e-FX and our production operations team in rollout and application support-related matters
  • You must be able to work collaboratively with other developers and with the trading desk directly      
  • Meeting deadlines and delivering results is paramount as your work will have a direct financial impact on Nordea Markets.  
  • You should have a strong sense of ownership and commitment to your tasks   

The role is based in Metro Copenhagen. We can welcome to a team there are situated on the trading floor, you will be working closely in a hectic atmosphere with colleagues from a wide range of teams and areas within Nordea Markets.

Your experience:   

You have excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to maintain overview in high pressure situations. With your software engineering background, you have knowledge of design patterns and software development lifecycle. With experience writing stable, maintainable and scalable code.  

  • Basic backend Java development skills (Java 8 or newer)  
  • Basic knowledge of Unix operating systems  
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and ability to work as part of a team   

You may also have (but can be learned on the job):  

  • Experience building multi-threaded and low-latency applications  
  • Knowledge of Java Garbage Collection and JVM tuning for performance  
  • Knowledge of FX Trading systems  
  • Financial knowledge, especially FX products
