The Mølle Å stream flows not too far from DTU. It has a wonderful natural water environment, which is threatened by different sources of pollution. Indeed, the stream is ther recipient for several Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO), and for the local separate storm sewer system. These discharges loads of different macro- and micropollutants to a natural area and to the Øresund.
The local water utility (Lyngby-Taarbeæk Forsyning -https://ltf.dk/) has an model for the stream, implemented in the MIKE 11 software. This model is from 2014, but since then new monitored data have become available, including water quality data, high time-resolution data (water levels), and information on the groundwater status.
The aim of the project is to investigate how an updated model can be used to (a) manage and mitigate the risk of flooding, (b) improve the hydraulic and (c) environmental conditions by replacing the manual control system with an automatic online control system.
