Laboratory Technician in the High Throughput Translational Hematology lab Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC)

We are seeking a highly motivated laboratory technician with an interest in biobanking and functional profiling of primary cells from patients with hematological malignancies for a position in translational hematology at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC), a research center of excellence at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Job description
We are seeking a candidate with an interest in translational pharmacology and a wish to be part of an interactive team of several scientific and clinical research groups within the newly established Program for Translational Hematology. The successful candidate will join the newly established High Throughput Translational Hematology laboratory and help run a biobank and a robotic platform for pharmacological profiling of primary cells from patients with hematological malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes.

The technician will primarily be responsible for isolating and biobanking patient cells and DNA but also support the pharmacological profiling of the cells. Biobanked patient cell material will be used for pharmacological profiling and by several other research groups within the Program for Translational Hematology. The results from the pharmacological profiling will be used to gain understanding of the diseases studied on an individual patient level and to identify novel therapeutic opportunities.

Start: As soon as possible, exact date after agreement
Duration: until December 31 2020

Qualifications and skills
The successful applicant should have:

  • Formal education as laboratory technician.
  • Experience with isolation and handling of blood cells and DNA/RNA.
  • Experience with biobanking.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a detail-oriented, structured approach to lab work.
  • Fluent knowledge of English and excellent communication skills.
Place of employment
The employment is at BRIC, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment with weekly journal clubs, data clubs and seminars with invited speakers. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 24 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory. In addition, there will be strong collaborative ties to other research groups at BRIC/DanStem/Rigshospitalet through the Program for Translational Hematology.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment is as laboratory technician. The appointment is fixed-term (until December 31 2020), full-time (37 h/week) with starting date as soon as possible after agreement. Employment is in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and HK-STAT (Danish Technician Association). The position will be at the level of salary group 3, with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement.
