We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Technician or Biomedical Laboratory Scientist to join the Sakamoto Group. The expected start date is 1 January 2021 or after agreement.

Our research

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is a vibrant international research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s research has resulted in seminal discoveries as to how genes, hormones, and environmental factors influence metabolic health and disease throughout life. The position available is in the Sakamoto Group, headed by Professor Kei Sakamoto, which investigates fundamental molecular signalling mechanisms that control energy metabolism and glucose homeostasis associated with exercise, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Your job

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician or a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist to assist us and accelerate our scientific discoveries and to promote transparency and reproducibility in scientific research through highly organized data/sample management and quality control processes. You will closely interact with the group head and members and play a key role in performing various lab-based activities and assisting laboratory organizations.

Your tasks will include

  • Performing cell culture assays and managing cell lines (quality control and storage)
  • Running basic protein and molecular biology assays (e.g. Western blots)
  • Mouse colony management and genotyping
  • Supporting lab organization (e.g. ordering, shipment, sample/material inventories)
Profile

We are looking for a proactive, interactive and highly organized Laboratory Technician or Biomedical Laboratory Scientist with the following qualifications:

Desirable qualification and experience

  • A degree as Laboratory Technician or Biomedical Laboratory Scientist (bioanalytiker) (academy profession degree or similar)
  • Preferably experience in pre-clinical (mouse) work (e.g. colony management, genotyping)
  • Experience (+2-3 years) in cell culture work (handling multiple cell lines), including some end-point assays (e.g. metabolic assays)
  • Good IT skills – preferably experience in electronic data/sample recording, use of GraphPad Prism
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and preferably also Danish)
Personal qualifications

  • A team player with a “can-do” attitude
  • Positive, pro-active, and open-minded
  • Solution-oriented, and capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time
Place of employment

The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment as Laboratory Technician or Biomedical Laboratory Scientist is a full-time position for 3 years. Expected starting date is 1 January 2021 or after agreement.

Employment as Biomedical Laboratory Scientist will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Danske Bioanalytikere.

Employment as Laboratory Technician will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and OAO/HK STAT. The position is placed in salary group 3.

Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
