Laboratory technician/medical laboratory technologist to support our efforts in establishing Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models from hematological patients

We are looking for a highly motivated laboratory technician/medical laboratory technologist to support our efforts in establishing Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models from hematological patients.

Our research
The Program for Translational Hematology (PTH) is a collaborative interdisciplinary translational research program between BRIC/Finsen, NNF Center for Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) and Rigshospitalet, established to gain fundamental understanding of hematological malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).

Within this program, the PDX platform has a central role to establish animal models from patient material, sort and analyze samples by flow cytometry. In addition, sorted cells and PDX material will be used by several other research groups within PTH in a collaborative effort to gain understanding of the diseases studied on an individual patient level and to identify novel therapeutic opportunities.

Your job
You will be a part of an interactive program with several scientific and clinical research groups within the PTH. Together with the PDX team your tasks will be

  • Purification and processing of patient samples before analysis and experiments
  • Assisting during small animal surgery to implant patient material
  • Monitoring mice and isolating tissues from these
  • Biobanking PDX samples
  • Prepare and run flow cytometry analyses / cells sorts
  • Document and report the progress of experiments to staff scientists
  • Assist the PDX staff scientist in similar experiments on an ad hoc basis
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic laboratory technician/medical laboratory technologist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills

  • You have a degree as laboratory technician or medical laboratory technologist (academy profession degree or similar)
  • You have experience with basic mouse work and/or flow cytometry
  • You have an open and service-minded attitude
  • You have good interpersonal communication skills
  • You have good English skills, written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills

  • FELASA B diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with purification of cells (eg. immunomagnetic, FACS)
  • Experience handling hematological cells
  • Experience with Biobanking software (Mosaic)
Place of employment
The place of employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. English serves as the working language within the laboratory and PTH, BRIC/Finsen, as a whole. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 24 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory. In addition, there will be strong collaborative ties to other research groups at BRIC/DanStem/Rigshospitalet through the Program for Translational Hematology.

Terms of salary and employment
Your employment will be at Biocenter, University of Copenhagen, Ole Måløesvej 5, 2200 Kbh.. The position is full-time (37 hours per week) and for 2 years (extendable) and it is open for appointment as soon as possible.

Employment as medical laboratory technologist will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Danske Bioanalytikere.

Employment as laboratory technician will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and OAO/HK STAT. The position is placed in salary group 4.

Depending on qualifications a supplement may be negotiated.
