General Summary

This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing production equipment and machinery. Assist with maintenance of building facilities as requested by management.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities (* = Essential Functions)

  • Maintains the condition of the production and facility equipment as per state regulations.
  • Ensures optimum operation of all production equipment and machinery by trouble shooting, diagnosing and repairing any problems in a timely manner.
  • Maintains, diagnoses and repairs all building systems and their components. Systems to include lighting, HVAC, production waste water system, steam, compressed air, hot and cold water systems, electrical, foam system, and all similar systems located throughout the facility.
  • Completes all required computer logs and paperwork.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts including conversion of weight and volume in the metric system. 
  • Basic knowledge of boiler plant fundamentals, HVAC operations and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and follow basic building diagrams and schematics.
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers with an ability to operate basic controls for equipment operation.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench) for assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Should be a self-starter that can prioritize their workday and function with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers regarding the status of a mechanical project.
  • Must be a member of the First Aid Team/Safety Committee and a Fire Protection Monitor. 
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and forklift license.
  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through a High school diploma or GED, with one-year certificate from a technical school, and 1 to 3 years related experience
  • Working Conditions

    Working environment may be in a production unit and includes frequent exposures to wet, humid, dusty, or loud conditions, moving machine parts, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. May come in contact with extremely cold conditions (-55°C). A company issued uniform is required to be worn along with personal protective equipment at all times. This can include coveralls, dust mask, hearing protection, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes. Employees in this position are required to wear a full face respirator when handling hazardous materials. Because wearing a respirator is a safety requirement, employees in this position are prohibited from having: (1) facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the respirator and the employee’s face, or (2) any other condition that interferes with the face to respirator seal. Not all facial hair is prohibited, only facial hair that interferes with the seal. Chr. Hansen will consider requests for a reasonable accommodation to these requirements in order to accommodate a sincerely held religious belief or a condition that constitutes a disability.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; scoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and use foot/feet to operate machines. Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. (assisted). This includes repetitive bending and lifting of items to stack or dump. Must be able to work under hot or extreme cold, wet, and sometimes-dusty, and loud conditions, dust mask, coveralls and, or hearing protection may be required. Strict compliance to “air lock” rules to avoid interdepartmental contamination.
