Market Risk Manager

Do you have a strong understanding of Risk Management and an analytical and mathematical approach to problem-solving? Is it important to you not only to support the business, but also to develop the business? And do you enjoy being involved with a lot of different stakeholders? Then you might be the Market Risk Manager, we are looking for!

Always a varied working day

The purpose of Neas Energy's Risk Management function is to help Neas Energy manage and control financial risk. As part of the Risk team you will help manage the risk of loss of earnings arising from changes in the value of the Neas portfolio driven by commodity price changes. The team has primary responsibility for the identification, measurement, control and reporting of commodity market risk.

You will play a key role in controlling and reporting risk and continuously developing the function as Neas Energy grows and develop their business model. You will continuously be challenged around risk measurement and methodology, processes and procedures whilst having close, daily interaction with the front office and business units across the company. Specifically, the Market Risk Manager will:

  • Support the Team Lead and the EM&T Head of Market Risk in controlling and reporting risk within the Neas business
  • Create a strong risk presence and promote risk discussion on the trading floor, alongside building strong relationships across the Neas business – including Centrica EM&T's London office
  • Provide timely risk insights into the trading portfolio to traders and senior management
  • Maintain and share strong knowledge of trading portfolios and keep abreast of developments in the energy markets
  • Quantitatively analyse new deals and identify embedded risks using simulation based modelling and other methods. Author new business reviews and strategic papers, and present the analysis in risk committee forums
  • Work with relevant business teams to implement new business and product frameworks and integrate changes into the current policies, processes and systems
  • Lead analytical reviews and deliver improvements to market risk processes, models and methodologies
  • Coach and contribute to the development of the team

Analytical and determined professional

You have excellent attention to detail with good problem-solving skills. You are confident and determined to succeed in a dynamic and demanding business environment. And finally, having strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact and communicate at all levels is a great advantage in this position. Further we expect you are dedicated, efficient and not afraid to take responsibility.

You also have:

  • Demonstrable market risk experience gained within an energy/oil company, utility or trading house, with exposure to European Power and Gas markets
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments and risk management of complex energy assets (specifically in Power and Gas) and risk methodologies such as VaR, Stress Testing and Option valuation theory
  • Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative subject
  • Strong mathematical and modelling skills required, including developed IT skills such as advanced Excel (VBA) and SQL. Python experience desirable but not a prerequisite
  • A strong independent mind in executing responsibilities alongside maintaining effective working relationships across the organisation
  • Confidence, presence, resilience and determination to succeed in a dynamic and demanding business environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, with good problem solving and root cause identification skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate at all levels

“You will work independently and at the same time be part of a skilled and social team who play a central role in the company. The business is constantly developing and as we enter new business areas new challenges constantly arise for risk management, which is an excellent opportunity for professional and personal development.” Signe, Team Lead in Risk Management
