General Summary

This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for maintaining the electrical components and equipment in the facilities at multiple plant or building locations.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities (* = Essential Functions)

  • Maintains the condition of designated production and facility equipment as per state regulations.
  • Ensures optimum operation of all production equipment and machinery by troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing any problems in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the implementation of company maintenance policies and training, maintain all necessary licenses and certifications, and assists in the training of lower level mechanics.
  • Maintains, diagnoses and repairs all building systems and their components. Systems to include lighting, HVAC, production waste water system, steam, compressed air, hot and cold water systems, electrical, foam system, and all similar systems located throughout the facility.
  • Performs all required work for installation and removal of equipment. Operation and design knowledge of computer hardware.
  • Displays proper knowledge of electronics operation, troubleshooting, and design.
  • Completes all required computer logs and paperwork on time.
  • Performs validation of metrology equipment throughout the production facilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code as it pertains to industrial facilities. 
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) installation, operations, ladder logics reading and programming, and troubleshooting. Emphasis on Allen-Bradley SLC-5 and SLC-500 PLC’s.
  • Knowledge of the proper operation of: oscilloscopes, multimeters, meggers, ammeters and other test equipment.
  • Capable of following circuit operation through design schematics.
  • Knowledge to recommend design and installation alterations to improve present production processes.
  • Understands power distribution, loads and power supplies, to include inverters, regulators, and rectifiers.
  • Must be a member of the First Aid Team/Safety Committee and a Fire Protection Monitor.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through a High school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of ten years of experience, a technical degree or journeyman’s license. Boiler operator license preferred.
  • Working Conditions

    Working environment may be in a production unit and includes frequent exposures to wet, humid, dusty, or loud conditions, moving machine parts, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. May come in contact with extremely cold conditions (-55°C). A company issued uniform is required to be worn along with personal protective equipment at all times. This can include coveralls, dust mask, hearing protection, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes. 

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; scoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and use foot/feet to operate machines. Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. (assisted). This includes repetitive bending and lifting of items to stack or dump. Must be able to work under hot or extreme cold, wet, and sometimes-dusty, and loud conditions, dust mask, coveralls and, or hearing protection may be required. Strict compliance to “air lock” rules to avoid interdepartmental contamination.
