Mechanical Design and Development Engineers

We are looking for experienced Mechanical Design and Development Engineers in Mechanisms.


• Design and analysis of vehicle mechanical, mechatronic and fluid control mechanisms.
• Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA).
• Hands-on engineering support to launch vehicle hardware development and testing.
• Managing multiple tasks and work packages in parallel with changeable priorities.
• Exemplify technical excellence and accountability.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering field.
• Experience designing, building, testing and iterating mechanical and fluid control systems.
• Proven knowledge of fundamental principles in solid mechanics and compressive flows.
• Fluency in use of CAD and FEA software for design definition and verification.
• Proactive and strong team player with excellent communication skills able to communicate with multi-disciplined and national teams.
• Adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales across multiple concurrent workstreams.

Essential Experience

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis of high-performance systems with high reliability requirements.
• Experience with generating technical drawings according to standards.
• Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
• Understanding of kinematics and derived tolerance specification.
• Proactive problem-solving skills such as failure analysis and root cause investigation.
• Knowledge of mechanical components (e.g. bearings, shafts, transmissions, sealings).
• Knowledge of electro-mechanical devices (e.g. actuators, release systems, motors, valves, regulators, or other fluid control devices).

Desirable Experience

• Demonstrated experience with detail design and verification of mechanical hardware for space systems.
• Familiarity with metallurgy, material selection and m aterial coatings for space applications.
• Familiarity with spacecraft structural loads (quasi-static loads, random vibration, shock, thermo-mechanical).
• Experience in unit environmental testing.
• Familiarity with industry standards and references (e.g. MIL-HDBK-5/17, ECSS-E-HB-32, NASA-STD-5001, GSFC-STD-7000).

This role is based in Copenhagen at Orbex’s Danish propulsion engineering and manufacturing site.

You will be spending time both at the factory and our nearby rocket engine testing site, with occasional travel to our main factory, test and launch sites in Scotland.

You must be a UK or European citizen, from a country that is a signatory to the MTCR convention. You may be required to undergo security screening.
