Molecular Biologist Technician in Villum Centre for Biodiversity Genomics

The Villum Centre for Biodiversity Genomics in Department of Biology at University of Copenhagen is looking for a motivated ACTAC specialized on molecular biologist for a period of 3 years from 1 September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG)

The research group is led by Prof. Guojie Zhang with the research focus on biodiversity genomics. The research group has developed many large-scale genomics studies to understand the evolutionary process and mechanisms for speciation and adaptation for broad spectrum of animal taxa. The group has good international environment and consists of researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including bioinformatics, genomics, evolution, developmental biologist, and ecology. Your Job

We are seeking a skilled molecular biologist to coordinate the wet laboratory work in CBG, optimise laboratory protocols as needed for the center’s projects, and assist the PhDs and Postdocs in the center to conduct their research programs in the center on an ad hoc basis. You will collaborate with other technical and administrative staff in the section.

Main tasks

  • Coordinate the molecular biology laboratory, manage the purchasing of reagents and consumables, take care of lab-environment, and keep a good record of the laboratory procedures.
  • Perform the regular molecular experiments such as DNA/RNA extraction for both vertebrate and insect samples, PCR, etc.
  • Develop new protocols for NGS libraries for specific purpose and implement the modifications to lab protocols as needed by other group members.
  • Help in the preparation of progress and dissemination reports on the technical processes.
  • Visit collaborators’ labs in abroad and perform the experiment for a short period.
  • Participate in the teaching for bachelor or master courses.
Mandatory Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Masters degree in a relevant topic and/or 3 years or above relevant work experience.
  • Experience in wet laboratory work in NGS and multi-omics technologies
  • Have some basic knowledge on the analysis of NGS data
  • Evidence of independence in managing research/researchers in lab or project management experience.
  • Excellent recording, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently but in coordination with a dynamic team in a multidisciplinary research group.
  • Teaching experience
  • Fluency in English (written, reading, spoken).
Other Qualifications of Considerable Interest

  • Previous experience in handling small biomass tissue samples for NGS
  • Documented experience in the development and implication of nucleic acid extraction and NGS library preparation protocols.
Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Section for Ecology and Evolution, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and sequencing facilities.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment is a full-time 3 year position. Starting date is 1 September 2020.

The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic research staff. The salary is based on seniority and currently between DKK 26,223 and DKK 31,954 per month (+ pension). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working hours are 37 hours per week on average.
