The newly established Novo Nordisk Centre for Multifunctional Biomolecular Drug Design (CEMBID) at the interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre, University of Aarhus, Denmark, invites applications for a position as assistant professor in the group of Prof. Kurt Gothelf (Chemistry). The position is a four-year position starting on 1 June 2018. In case further external funding is secured within the academic area the candidate is assessed obviously qualified for, an extension is possible for up to a total maximum of 8 years of employment as Assistant Professor.

The Centre for Multifunctional Biomolecular Drug Design aims to develop new multi-functional drugs. Most drugs used today have only one therapeutic effect and it is both difficult and expensive to manufacture drugs with several functions. The aim of the Centre for Multifunctional Biomolecular Drug Design (CEMBID) is to research into new drugs with multiple mechanisms of action. The centre will develop methods to build modules of different proteins and small molecules that can simply and effectively be joined to make multifunctional drugs. This will pave the way for new types of drugs that are more effective, have fewer side effects, and can be adapted to the individual patient.

Job description
The object of the position is to develop new bioconjugation methods in particular between proteins and nucleic acids. Another part of the tasks will be to investigate reactions for bioconjugation and prepare molecular probes, including modified oligonucleotides. The position will also include design of DNA structures for assembly of such conjugates. The successful candidate for this position should have a solid background in organic chemistry and have experience in nucleic acid chemistry, and automated oligonucleotide synthesis. The candidate is expected to have experience in daily supervision of both PhD students and undergraduates.
