We are currently recruiting an:

Organon – Associate Director Occupational Health

The location for this role is flexible in Europe

Purpose of the role

This role will be the knowledge leader with ability to set strategy for an employee and occupational health program aligned to the business needs and enhancement of the health and well-being of Organon employees. You will possess and interpret knowledge of occupational health regulations and how they relate to employees and the work that they do. You will develop and oversee implementation of policies, procedures and programs aimed at accomplishment of key employee and occupational health program elements at Organon sites worldwide.

Main responsibilities

  • Provide advice and consultation to site management on matters of site health issues;
  • Assist in selection of qualified vendors and communicate requirements to ensure that appropriate evaluations are performed to determine if employees can safely and effectively accomplish the essential functions of their jobs without direct threat to themselves, others, or the quality of Company products (e.g., pre-assignment/placement, fitness for duty evaluations). Communicate decisions to management;
  • Participate in annual medical surveillance assessments with management and Safety/ Industrial Hygiene to jointly determine if surveillance programs meet requirements for the type and degree of exposure, and the appropriateness of enrollment criteria. Performs remote evaluations, if possible;
  • Assure that designated vendors perform medical surveillance programs indicated by regulation (Organon, local, country and regional regulations), business need (e.g., GMP), or identified hazard, on all Organon employees identified by their supervisor and Safety/IH as potentially exposed; manage the on time and compliant delivery of medical surveillance programs and manage local vendors and link with site EHS, HR and relevant site leadership teams to ensure attendance is monitored to ensure compliance;
  • Monitor designated vendors in provision of medical care of work-related injuries and illnesses. Participate in management of cases to facilitate early return to health and work. Observe pertinent privacy laws while communicating injury status to Safety and Management;
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of hazards in all Company locations, and when new hazards are identified involves subject experts, including, but not limited to, Safety, Biosafety, Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, Radiation Safety, and Legal to develop an appropriate response (procedure, protocol, standard, guideline, or tool);
  • Develop collaborative working relationship with site Management, Safety and Industrial Hygiene professionals to facilitate safe working conditions and minimize adverse health effects;
  • Assist site management (working with EHS who are responsible for first aid and fire responders) in assuring the availability of well-trained first responders and the appropriate equipment to respond to all types of medical emergencies (injuries, illnesses, and incidents commensurate with the particular health risks at that location);
  • Communicate to designated vendor the requirement that employees exposed to the potential hazard of infection or diseases arising out of foreign travel, experiments, processes, materials, products or animals in the course of their employment are to be immunized against such conditions provided that an effective vaccine is available;
  • Oversee vendor of travel medical services and takes calls 24/7 to assist in coordination of best possible medical care for medical emergencies incurred by business travelers;
  • Assist in identification of risks to employees and develops programs to address workplace violence, substance abuse, unhealthy lifestyle, or inadequate safety programs;
  • Responsible for the effective management of audit ready activities to ensure OH compliance on all sites. Liaising with on site EHS where appropriate to ensure the audit readiness is up to date and compliant. 
  • Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, a medical background is preferred;
  • At least 5 years of experience in Occupational Health;
  • Knowledge and vision of what a strong OH program looks like, within international context;
  • Medical knowledge and expertise for global oversight and management for the following areas are a plus:Corporate-wide health promotion, disease prevention and detection programs;Vendor supplied core services;Compliance with all company, country, and local governmental regulations and other requirements related to occupational and employee health matters;Privacy and management of employee health information;Quality assurance programs.
  • Effective and proven vendor management experience to lead and direct various OH providers across various sites and countries;
  • Strong decision-making skills, problem solving and independent nursing judgment;
  • Ability to interact with employees and understanding of individual and group behaviour;
  • Proficient in use of computer data systems and word processing;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
