Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in Bioorthogonal self-assembly of peptides commencing 1 May 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.  
 
Description of the scientific environment  
Our research is at the interface between synthetic chemistry, biology, physics, and biomedicine. The starting point for our research is chemical synthesis, peptide chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, organic chemistry on proteins, or chemistry on nanoparticles and surfaces. We are developing new, general chemical tools that enable us to contribute to medicinal chemistry and chemical biology.

Project description  
The projects will be carried out at the Department of Chemistry and will be part of the Biomolecular Nano-scale Engineering Center.  
The projects will aim at developing new nano-structures using (1) peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates and (2) peptide-carbohydrate conjugates. Next, the ability of the conjugates to assemble into higher order structures by their inherent orthogonal self-assembling segments will be studied. A strong background in organic chemistry, peptide and protein chemistry, and nanobioscience or biophysics is required. A good understanding of molecular self-assembly will be an advantage.

• To manage and carry through your research project  
• Attend PhD courses  
• Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis  
• Teach and disseminate your research  
• To stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad  
• Work for the department  
 
Formal requirements  
Applicants should hold an MSc degree in chemistry, molecular life science, or nanobioscence, with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.  
 
Terms of employment  
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  
 
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  
 
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 312.879 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 43.219). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
