PhD fellow in plant developmental biology

Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering one PhD scholarship in plant developmental biology commencing 01.04.2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Description of the scientific environment

The laboratory of Stephan Wenkel at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PLEN), University of Copenhagen, Denmark investigates the function of microProteins in model and crop plants (https://plen.ku.dk/english/research/plant_biochemistry/plant-development/) and is located at the Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (www.cpsc.ku.dk). PLEN and CPSC constitute a stimulating and international research environment with state-of-the-art facilities.

Project description
We are recruiting one PhD student to work on a three-year project aimed at identifying novel microProteins that regulate shade avoidance responses in plants. MicroProteins are small single-domain proteins that have been shown to control diverse biological pathways. In the project we will employ a combination of transcriptome-sequencing, genome-engineering and protein biochemistry approaches in Arabidopsis and tomato plants to unravel the function of new microProteins.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with an MSc in biology or related discipline. The ideal applicant has experience in working with plants and thrives in an international working environment. Knowledge in genome-engineering and/or protein biochemistry is a plus.

Principal supervisor is Associate Professor Stephan Wenkel, Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences, wenkel@plen.ku.dk
