PhD fellowship in Odontology

The Department of Odontology invites applications for a PhD fellowship. The candidate will work in the field of Periodontology. Thus, the candidates should be able to perform studies in Periodontology.

The PhD fellowship is full time and will commence September 1st, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project/Scientific area
The project:
Periodontal Comorbidity using nationwide pharmaco-epidemiologic data from Danish National Health Registers with the objective:
To characterize the comorbidity of periodontitis with focus on cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases and neurodegenerative diseases as well as the impact of periodontitis and periodontal treatment on the prognosis of the diseases.

Peter Riis Hansen, Professor, Dr Med Sc, PhD, Department of Cardiology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital and Section of Periodontology, Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Lisa Bøge Christensen, Associate Professor, PhD, DDS, Section of Community Dentistry, Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Palle Holmstrup, Professor, Dr Odont, PhD, DDS, Section of Periodontology, Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Job description
The key tasks for the PhD fellow will be to:

  • Manage and carry out an independent research project under supervision
  • Write scientific articles and the PhD thesis based on the research project
  • Complete PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points
  • Obtain experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related to the PhD project
  • Participate in undergraduate teaching of students in odontology
  • Participate in national and international congresses and scientific meetings
  • Stay at an external research institution, preferably abroad

The candidate must hold a relevant Master’s degree in dentistry (DDS) and must document clinical experience including practical skills and theoretical knowledge including experience in research settings.

Furthermore, a candidate with experience within periodontology will be preferred.

It is a prerequisite that the candidate can be enrolled as a PhD student at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen and attached to the graduate programme in Muscoskeletal and Oral Sciences (MUSKOS).

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The candidate is required to perform assigned tasks in connection with teaching during the period of employment.

The Assessment Committee makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
