PhD in the Field of Marine Biogeochemistry and Molecular Ecology

The Department of Biology at SDU invites applications for a PhD in marine biogeochemistry and molecular microbial ecology. The project will focus on the marine nitrogen and carbon cycles and their response to climate change in tropical and polar ocean regions. In addition, we will work with pure cultures to complement our environmental studies.

Main research objectives for this position include the identification of key functional microbial groups involved in those cycles using metagenomics and transcriptomics, including bioinformatics. Further, measurements of nitrogen and carbon turnover processes will be determined using stable isotope incubation techniques.

Hence, we seek a candidate with a background in molecular microbiology, biogeochemistry, or bioinformatics or related fields, and with experience in the analysis of environmental samples and cultivation of marine microbes. Strong organizational skills are required, as the candidate will be involved in field campaigns. In this context, the candidate should be willing to go on cruises and to travel.

The selected candidate will work closely together with the Nordcee team and other colleagues at the Department of Biology. The PhD should begin around May or June 2018.
