Ph.D. position for H2020 project ''TeamPlay'' on low-energy computing with application to drone systems

The Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Center (https://www.sdu.dk/uas) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at SDU is offering a 3-year Ph.D. position starting from April 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.


The Ph.D. will work on the TeamPlay project (Time, Energy and security Analysis for Multi/Many-core heterogeneous PLAtforms) recently funded by the ICT-05 call: Customized and Low Energy Computing (http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/topics/ict-05-2017.html) under Horizon 2020. The goal of the TeamPlay project is to develop new, formally-motivated techniques that will allow execution time, energy usage, security, and other important non-functional properties of parallel software to be treated effectively, enabling the developer to reason about both the functional and the non-functional properties of their software at the source code level. In this context, the Ph.D. will investigate heterogeneous multicore architectures, focusing on applying the TeamPlay platform to analyze, design, optimize, and implement the main energy-consuming software components in drone systems. The optimized applications will serve as use cases for the project as a whole and will be implemented on experimental drone platforms.


The successful candidates will be expected to have:



  • Master-level degree in embedded systems, computer engineering, computer science, robotics or related fields.

  • Strong background in system integration, software compilers, optimizers, microprocessors, and GPUs.

  • Good programming and modeling skills (e.g., Python, C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, UML, SystemC).


Additionally, the candidate should have excellent writing skills and be able to work independently. The successful candidate for the position will be affiliated with the UAS Center at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, the University of Southern Denmark.


The applicant should provide a cover letter explaining his/her approach to the problem, and at most three articles illustrating his/her publication record and research interests, in addition to standard items such as CV, full publication list, etc. (see below).

A 5+3 PhD Fellowship is a three-year salaried position. The approval of the enrolment by the PhD school is a condition for the employment. Enrollment and employment ends automatically by the end of the period. The holder of the fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.


Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
