PhD position in Food Science

A PhD stipend is available from July 1st in the Food Science group at SDU Biotechnology.

The group focuses on gaining a fundamental scientific understanding of food material/molecules in order to allow the next generation of food product innovation. The PhD position will focus on investigating the relationship between texture properties of food and food microstructure. Among other biophysical, chemical and biochemical methods, advanced optical microscopy will be used to follow changes in food material during different gastronomic preparations.

We seek a highly motivated, talented student with interests in food biophysics, -(bio)chemistry and -technology. A strong background in food engineering, physical chemistry, biophysics and soft matter is an advantage. A Master’s degree in Food Science/Engineering, Biotechnology/-physics/-chemistry or related fields is a requirement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has the following skills and competences:

  • Experience using optical microscopy
  • Experience with physicochemical characterisation
  • An interdisciplinary mind-set, and ability to communicate across scientific disciplines and to peers as well as non-peers

The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious and a team player. Additionally, it is expected that the candidate has the ability to work independently and assists in supervision of project students at Master and Bachelor level.
