PhD Position in Nonlinear Quantum Optics with Ultracold Ytterbium

A PhD position is available in the Nonlinear Quantum Optics group, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark. The project involves the realization of single-photon optical nonlinearities in a new experimental setup using ultracold Ytterbium. 

The candidate is expected to lead the experimental realization of this novel system, including the development of all required experiment components. The applicant must have a strong background in quantum optics and atomic physics, such as an MSc in physics (5+3 programme). The applicant is expected to have experience with experimental techniques such as ultracold atom preparation, single-photon detection, and Rydberg atom spectroscopy. 

Ideally, the applicant should have passed a master-level advanced course in modern atomic physics, quantum optics or equivalent. These requirements must be clearly documented in the submitted CV, otherwise the application will not be considered. The candidate should be independent and able to communicate fluently in English, as well as possess good interpersonal skills. The expected start date is 1 September 2019. 

This position is subject to the entry into force of grant agreement no 123456 funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.
