About the area

Lundbeck Business Area North (BAN) consists of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, UK, Ireland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and employs approximately 140 people and the position will be based in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the role as People & Organisation Director (P&O Director) for the Business Area you will report directly into the Managing Director (MD) of BAN and you will have a dotted reporting line to the Senior P&O Partner for Region Europe.

About the role

As P&O Director, you have a critical role in the business area with a multi-faceted job where you will join forces with many internal stakeholders in the cluster office, the countries and with global partners. You will get to lead and maintain the BAN P&O (HR) operation, including P&O Annual Wheel activities and local commercial initiatives and strategies, in order to help the business to perform at its best. You will ensure that all local P&O activities are conducted in compliant ways and in line with local legislation and you will proactively stimulate the BA with best practice P&O initiatives, some of these coming from Corporate P&O. You will be supported by one direct report (P&O Manager), and you will become part of the BA Senior Leadership Team. You will collaborate closely with the leadership team and get ongoing guidance and sparring from the MD to help you shape a best-in-class P&O agenda that further supports the growth of the business.

Key responsibilities

One of your key responsibilities will be to build and maintain strong working relationships with the BAN Leadership Team as a true business partner, understanding the businesses and challenges in all areas of the BA. To achieve this, you will work closely with the MD for BAN and Global P&O - and you will lead and co-create activities with the BAN P&O Manager. You will own and drive the local P&O Annual Wheel activities, ensuring these are aligned, communicated and rolled out within BAN as well as facilitate workshops and feedback sessions within BAN as required. You will oversee the local delivery of operational requirements such as payroll, ensuring great collaboration with the Group Business Services (GBS) in Poland and act as a change agent for the BA, delivering and supporting change through our Culture and People, using local P&O support as needed. Organisational design and structural planning within BAN are also key to ensure that the structure of BAN is agile and optimised for present and future business needs. In addition, you will implement the core processes which will underpin an effective P&O function for the BA including Performance Management (including My Competencies and My Performance), Recognition & Reward, Recruitment, Talent and Development and HR systems and processes. You will maintain up to date knowledge and be responsible for all advice and guidance given on employee relations matters e.g. performance/conduct issues, absence, grievance, redundancy and other aspects of employment law in the BA. Furthermore, you will drive the Organizational Review process in cooperation with the MD which includes talent and succession mapping. Lastly, you will ensure that the BA is working in compliance with local Pharma Industry codes of practice (e.g.: ENLI, ABPI, IPHA, PIF etc).

Your qualifications

To be successful in the role of P&O Director you must have a strong ability to drive projects forward via close relationships and excellent communication. We will put great emphasis on your personal qualities, your strategic mindset and operational capabilities. We expect that you have a relevant academic degree (within HR, Business Administration, or related fields), that you have at least 5 years of demonstrated HR Partner experience, and that you have experience and understanding of the pharmaceutical industry or alternatively a related environment within a commercial function. Besides this, we would ideally expect the following:

  • Hands-on experience across the full “HR palette”, e.g. employee relations, employment law, payroll, people/talent development, talent management, recruitment, compensation and benefits, communications, organisational change
  • Demonstrable success of change management in a medium/large-sized global organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills with a proven track record in working in cross-functional teams with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience from working with a global service centre set-up
  • Experience of working across several different countries consecutively
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate at different levels
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis within Europe (expect around 30 days/year post-Covid)
