Political advisor to STRING, Region Zealand in Sorø, Denmark

Then you may be STRING’s new Political Advisor.

We are a political network organisation stretching from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, Region Zealand, Capital Region and The City of Copenhagen in Denmark, The City of Malmö, Region Skåne, Region Halland and Region Västra Götaland in Sweden and Akershus and Østfold Counties in Norway.

The population in the area is 11,5 million. We are among the richest societies in Europe and our quality of life indexes are among the highest in the World. We are innovation leaders in many areas; life science, ITC, biotech, transport and logistics as well as world class when it comes to renewable industries and energy savings.

Our vision is to create a green growth corridor in Northern Europe in the wake of the new infrastructure connected to the Fehmarnbelt project between Denmark and Germany as well as the infrastructure investments along the Swedish West Coast and between Gothenburg and Oslo. We see the infrastructure as a crucial tool to develop our societies – both sustainable and economically.

Our role in assuring this development, is to work with policy making, lobbying, influencing and dialogue as important means to reach our ambitious goals to become a model for the rest of the world when it comes to regional cooperation and development, green solutions and economic prosperity. Our focus areas are: Infrastructure, Green Growth, Research and Development, Tourism, Culture and Cross-Border living.

We work on all levels of governance, both local, regional, national, international and with the EU institutions – and an important part of our remit is to bring together actors from the political, academic and business sphere to facilitate cross-border cooperation.

The position as political advisor is new, and we foresee a close cooperation with the rest of the 7 person strong Secretariat as well as with the 11 partner organisations in STRING.

Your tasks

We expect that you will work with

  • You will be the driver of political initiatives in a very large arena and your focus will be to turn STRINGs political agenda into concrete and relevant initiatives
  • You will be a key person in our political issues management towards both national and EU level
  • Screening of the national political priorities in the four countries to understand where STRING needs to position itself
  • Make yourself familiar with regional and local interests in the STRING geography
  • Work in and with EU institutions with a particular focus on cross border cooperation and EU funding
  • Formulate and optimize the relevance of the political statements and initiatives from STRING. Plan lobbying and communication initiatives that promote the plans. Here you will work closely with our communication professionals
  • Formulate speeches, blog posts and articles that supports our agenda and initiatives
  • Plan and initiate public debates that support the overall ambitions of STRING as well as arrange seminars and events that support dialogue on the future of the 11,5 million people in the STRING corridor

  • You are
  • Educated within political science, communication and/or public affairs to an academic level
  • Well experienced in lobbying and public affairs activities with a proven track record of results, preferable both on national and EU level
  • Have experience from working in a political organisation
  • Have a network within media and influencers in at least one of the countries in STRING
  • Fluent in one of the four languages: German, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian as well as in English
  • Familiar with the role of ambassador, speaker and panellist representing an organisation and its views
  • Self driven, disciplined and with a great deal of patience and diplomatic skills
  • Well able to understand the importance of working together with your colleagues both within the Secretariat but also with the 11 partners in order to align interest and relevance
  • Flexible and diplomatic in your interactions with our many stakeholders

  • Practicalities

    The STRING Secretariat is headquartered at Region Zealand in Sorø, Denmark - where your office will be situated. We travel a lot in STRING in order to keep in contact with all the partners, participate in debates and meetings in the four countries and in the EU, so a certain amount of flexibility is required.

    You will be employed by Region Zealand who is STRING’s legal body, adhering to Danish labour market standards.
