Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant 3-year Postdoc in ESG and The Blue Economy at the Department of Management, Society and Communication
Project Description:
Financial institutions have a key role to play in protecting the biodiversity of the oceans and its carbon absorption and storage capabilities. Still, most investors are not aware of their investments’ impacts on the marine environment and of how a degrading ocean may subsequently affect their portfolios’ performance and value. Financial service institutions have, up to now, been slow to react to the state of the ocean.
In partnership with Green Digital Finance and WWF-Denmark this project will follow the money of major Nordic FIs calculating the ocean impacts per invested krone and translating it into financial value at risk and carbon at risk. Quantifying ocean risks into negative impacts on the business and carbon commitments will help to drive oceans into financial decision-making practices of Nordic FIs. The project will not stop at ocean risks but will facilitate an innovation process to consider new financial products, and translate research findings into Blue Economy curricula for students at CBS and in financial institutions.
As part of this larger project, the postdoc will specifically support the building of business cases, analysis of ESG metrics for the Blue Economy and their uptake within Nordic financial institutions, and course materials that integrate key thematic areas from the project to graduate students that will be leaders in the new.
This position is funded in collaboration between the Velux Foundation’s “A Healthy Ocean in a Changing Climate” programme and CBS.
Examples of research areas that the Postdoc might cover:
- Identifying and evaluating key impact measures for Blue Economy ESG
- Analysis of trends in ESG concerns of financial institutions in Europe
