Post doctoral fellow in mass spectrometry based proteomics investigation of tyrosine kinase signaling in cardiac arrhythmias

A highly attractive postdoctoral position is available in the Cardiac Proteomics group (Lundby lab) at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

About the group

Our group works in the intersection of two scientific disciplines: molecular cardiac physiology and high resolution proteomics technology. In the interface between these two disciplines novel mechanistic insight on molecular regulatory mechanisms of the heart can be achieved. Cardiac proteomics allows for unbiased investigations of protein and signaling changes taking place in cardiac tissue. The efforts undertaken aim at uncovering a deep molecular understanding of the changes in hearts exposed to various perturbations ultimately allowing us to identify novel pharmaceutical targets for cardiac disease intervention.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the protein signaling changes in cardiac arrhythmias, with particular emphasis on phosphotyrosine signaling.

Job Description

The post doctoral fellow will use quantitative phosphoproteomics based approaches to identify the molecular changes in cardiac arrhythmias in an unbiased manner using animal models and patient biopsies. The specific research areas that this fellow will be driving include:

  • Quantitative phosphoproteomics experiments
  • Analysis of phosphotyrosine signaling pathways in hearts
  • In-vivo investigation of signaling effects of cardio-toxic cancer drugs
  • Applying various biochemical and molecular biology approaches for functional follow-up experiments on identified phosphorylation sites.
  • Day-to-day planning, execution and analysis of experimental work.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry, or a closely related field
  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Ambitious, creative, independent and self-driven
  • Hands on skills and expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:
    • State of the art mass spectrometry based proteomics and phosphoproteomics
    • Previous experience in cell signaling pathways/network analysis
    • Profound knowledge of cell biology and/or biochemical methods
    • Prior experience with handling primary cardiac cells
    • Computational analysis of large scale proteomics data
    • Prior experience within molecular cardiac research
The preferred applicant should have an excellent academic track record, solid research experience and be highly motivated to deploy diverse experimental strategies to extract novel findings of importance to cardiac (patho)physiology. Previous research experience in a competitive environment is required.

Our environment
The candidate will be part of the Cardiac Proteomics group led by Professor Lundby at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and affiliated with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The successful candidate will be working in a team of scientists across multiple scientific fields focused on improving our molecular understanding of cardiac pathophysiologies. Our facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories and core facilities and the position provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise in state-of-the-art quantitative mass spectrometry, data analysis of large datasets and integration of matched large-scale datasets. Striving for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility, we offer creative, friendly and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and strong scientific environment where you get the opportunity to plan your work independently to further your professional and personal development.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

Workplace and period of employment
Workplace is located at Maersk Tower, The Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The period of employment is 2 years. Suggested start date is January 1st 2021 .
