Post Doctoral fellow in oxidative enzymology

Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a post doctoral position in oxidative enzymology, commencing April 1st, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.  
 
Description of the scientific environment  
The post doc position is placed in Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management and Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (http://cpsc.ku.dk/), and is part of the project “Harnessing the power of Oxidative Enzymes” (HOPE) funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.  
 
The HOPE project is situated at different locations on the University of Copenhagen campus, as well as DTU, and for all employees there will be a strong emphasis on establishing and maintaining a high level of communication and collaboration, between the project partners. We value a creative work environment, where openness and sharing of ideas and results are of key importance.  
The successful applicant will join a vibrant international research environment and will have an important role in establishing a new laboratory dedicated to the study of oxidative enzymes.  
 
Project description  
The strategic research initiative HOPE addresses the pressing challenge of studying some of the most powerful oxidative enzymes discovered in Nature, known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases or LPMOs. LPMOs are essential for initiating the enzymatic decomposition of abundant recalcitrant biopolymers such as chitin and cellulose. In HOPE, we strive to use insight into enzyme mechanism to understand the role of LPMOs in their biological context. A dedicated laboratory for oxidative enzymology is currently being established. This laboratory is charged with the task of being the biochemistry and biology hub of HOPE. The laboratory has a full-time technical assistant employed.  
The postdoc’s duties will include research within the effect of fungal and bacterial LPMOs on the interaction of pathogens with plants. Development of methodology involving both biochemistry and microscopy to study the impact of LPMOs during infection will be important. For this various infection assays will be established and a selection of plant mutants will be used.
 
Job description  
The position is available for a 3-year period and your key tasks as a Postdoc at SCIENCE are:  

  • to independently design and execute experiments and manage data analysis.  
  • to record experimental results in a professional manner.  
  • to draft and submit research articles as the primary author to peer-review journals,  
  • to supervise students in research laboratories,  
  • to disseminate the research results at conferences etc.,  
  • in close collaboration with the technical assistant, to execute GLP and to contribute to the maintenance of shared instruments,  
  • to participate in Departmental and Section activities.  
  • the post may also include performance of other duties.
