Post-doctoral position in human-computer interaction

Post-doctoral position in human-computer interaction
Department of Computer Science
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher. The ideal candidate has worked on technologies with/on/in the body or has competences in embodied cognition (e.g., from research in psychology) but we will consider any applicant that has worked on other areas in human-computer interaction that overlap with our work. The position is open from 1 July 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter

The position is associated with the project Body-UI, awarded by the European Research Council for five years to Kasper Hornbæk (http://www.kasperhornbaek.dk). The project combines results and methods from research on embodied cognition with recent advances in technologies for body-based UIs. We seek to understand how using the body to control computers changes the way users think and to demonstrate body-based user interfaces that offer new and better forms of interaction with computers.

The position is 2 years full-time positions in the Section on Human-centered Computing at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen (http://www.di.ku.dk).

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Why do a PostDoc at University of Copenhagen?
We offer a research environment with much freedom: to a large extent, you shape the research you work on and the ideas you pursue. Our section aspires to be a top research environment for human-computer interaction that bridges technology, theory, and empirical studies: we had nine papers at CHI 2018 (1 best paper).

Qualifications
- Ph.D. (or soon-to-be Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Human-computer Interaction, Psychology, Affective Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- Either
(a) skills in body-based user interfaces (e.g., on-body touch, computer vision, mid-air gestures, augmented reality, virtual reality, motion-tracking, proxemics interaction)
(b) skills in embodied cognition (e.g., documented in work on affect, memory, agency, body image)
(c) skills in other research areas that overlap with our work (see bodyui.eu or kasperhornbaek.dk), including user experience, information visualization, virtual reality, or tangible interaction.
- Publications in top venues (could be CHI, UIST, TOCHI; or journals on embodied cognition)

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 419.772 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 71.781). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

Potential applicants from outside of Denmark can find information about life in Denmark---including on taxation and health care---at http://ism.ku.dk. For most non-Danish citizens, health care is free and reduced taxation available.
