Our department is leading the innovation within the area of bioprocess development of stem cell cultures, as currently only limited scalable procedures for the manufacture of beta cells derived from stem cells exist.

The Stem Cell Development department is part of R&D and we work in close collaboration with our colleagues in Global Research.

The position
The project aims to improve our capabilities for experimentation and learning within stem cell bioprocessing. Due to the complexity of stem cell products, their manufacturing process needs to be well characterised and controlled. The studies will involve establishing a well-controlled and automated small-scale cell cultivation process. The process will be applied to explore the impact of numerous process conditions on key out-come variables. The experimental design will be based on quality by design assessments and statistical design of experiments. A number of well-established FACS, RNA/qPCR and cell quantification assays will be an integrated part of these studies.

Located in Novo Nordisk's research and development site in Denmark, the postdoc will be working in the department of Stem Cell Development within Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) organisation and collaborate closely with colleagues in Stem Cell Biology and Upstream Technologies from Global Research organisation. A focus area of the project will be to adapt systems and translate knowledge gained through process development projects within mammalian cell based biopharmaceuticals. The postdoc will be part of a cross-departmental team and will be working in close collaboration within the team and with other scientists and project stakeholders. Developing and maintaining strong networks across different areas of expertise will be an important part of your work, with good opportunities for personal and professional development.

Qualifications
The person we seek is innovative with a high focus on quality. You must have a PhD within Life Sciences and have a strong experimental background within cell culture, preferable stem cells and/or bioreactor cultivation of mammalian cells. Experience with analytical procedures to assess the quality of cells (FACS, RNA, ICC) or cell metabolism (metabolite profiling) is strongly desired. Experience within process development and hands-on work with bioreactor systems will be considered an advantage.

You have a proven publication record and preferably experience from working cross-culturally or in global teams. You have the, ability to identify, challenge and implement potential improvements to work procedures, as well as having an excellent quality mind-set. You are motivated and comfortable working in a results-oriented dynamic research and development environment. You have good interpersonal skills with a high sense of individual responsibility.
