Postdoc in Economics and Business Economics - Changing consumer behaviour (959239)

The Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus University, invites applications for a postdoc position. 
The postdoc position is established as part of the research project SafeConsume, financed by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, and with additional funding from the Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus University. The postdoc position will be a fixed-term three-year position. The starting date is 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible hereafter subject to mutual agreement. 
Job description  
The successful applicant is expected to contribute significantly to the research project SafeConsume, as well as to the department’s research and teaching activities. We expect the applicant to carry out individual and group-based research of the highest international standard, which contributes to developing the project and the research field.  
SafeConsume is funded by Horizon 2020 and has a duration of five years with 32 partners in 14 countries in Europe. The overall objective of SafeConsume is to reduce the health burden from foodborne illnesses through change of consumer behavior. Hazards in food accounts for about 23 million cases of illness and 5000 deaths in Europe every year. Nearly 40% of foodborne outbreaks are domestic outbreaks and food safety violations at the consumer stage are common, particularly due to poor hygiene and insufficient heating and cooling. The ambition of SafeConsume is to initiate a new and broader approach in research, innovation, education and food safety policy, widening the space of opportunities for improving food safety.  
The successful applicant will join the SafeConsume research group at Aarhus University, which consists of Professor Julia Nafziger, Professor Alexander Koch, and Associate Professor Dan Mønster. The applicant will contribute to the main work of this group in the SafeConsume project, including: 

  • to participate in designing a food safety myth reduction app 
  • to coordinate with the company in charge of the technical realization of this app  
  • to participate in the design and execution of controlled experiments to measure changes in behaviour after using the app  
  • to participate in the design and execution of web-based experimental studies to test the behavioural effect of different communication strategies. 
Research fields  
Applicants from the fields of economics, business economics and statistics are welcome, including, but not limited to, behavioral economics, experimental economics, consumer research, marketing and applied micro economics.  
Your qualifications 
You must hold a relevant PhD or have equivalent qualifications. You should be interested in engaging in an interdisciplinary research project and be a confident communicator who can coordinate with our international project partners. You should have expertise in or a strong interest in pursuing some of the following: 
  • Design of experiments 
  • Programming and data analysis 
  • Research in risk communication and perception 
  • Research in behavioral change and nudging 
  • Machine learning 
  • Gamification

The Department of Economics and Business Economics, which is one of the six departments at Aarhus BSS one of the four faculties at Aarhus University. The successful candidate will be associated with Cognition and Behavior Lab, which is a state-of-the art behavioural infrastructure for multi- and interdisciplinary research. The lab has over 400 square meters of rooms, and is equipped with eye trackers, virtual reality facilities, equipment for psychophysiological measurements and EEG.
