Postdoc in Parkinson's disease and the blood-brain barrier (958096)

A Postdoc position within the field of Parkinson’s disease and blood-brain barrier transport is available at the Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University from 1st of September 2018. The Postdoc will primarily work with different compounds that can inhibit aggregation of the protein alpha-synuclein, which is known to be a key player in the pathology of Parkinson’s disease. These compounds should be tested for toxicity in cell models and primary neurons and should furthermore be tested for their abilities to enter and transcytose brain endothelial cells.

A relevant PhD is mandatory and the perfect candidate will have a broad background in analytical biochemistry, protein science and cell biology. Priority will be given to candidates with competences in one or more of following techniques: cell toxicity assays, confocal imaging, mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), HPLC, in vitro BBB models, protein aggregation and basic culturing of primary cell.

The funding is for a 30-month period and the successful candidate will be employed at the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University, where he/she will be associated with the BBB group headed by Associate Professor Morten S. Nielsen. The project is a collaboration with Professor Daniel Otzen, iNANO, Science and Technology, Aarhus University as well as colleagues at University Hospital. The work will therefore take place at several locations on the University Campus.

For further information contact Morten S. Nielsen (mn@biomed.au.dk, +45 28992387) or Daniel Otzen (dao@inano.au.dk, +45 20725238).
