Postdoc in Probabilistic Design and Reliability Assessment

Would you like to achieve lasting impact in wind energy science, by pioneering new probabilistic methods for reliability assessment and cost-efficient design of large offshore wind turbines/wind farms ? DTU Wind Energy is looking for a postdoctoral candidate eager to engage in a large international initiative focused on achieving wind energy cost reductions through advanced probabilistic modeling.

Responsibilities and qualifications
As part of our team, you will engage in multidisciplinary studies combining applied statistics and probability, structural modelling, statistical flow modelling, and data science. This cutting-edge scientific work will happen in close collaboration with your highly skilled colleagues, and with academic and industrial partners from Denmark and abroad. In your daily work, you will be part of the Structural Integrity and Load Assessment (SIL) section. Your primary tasks will be:

  • Modeling turbines within a wind farm for load assessment considering wake effects
  • Statistical analysis of load predictions to assess failure limit states.
  • Develop statistical models using machine learning.
  • Uncertainty quantification and Bayesian parameter estimation;
  • Develop life models of drive train components such as bearings based on load time series analysis.
  • We are looking for candidates with a PhD in Wind Energy, mechanical engineering, civil engineering or a similar discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with peer-reviewed research publications that document:

  • Expertise in Structural/component mechanics and limit state assessment of wind turbines
  • Experience with dynamics such as used in wind turbine aeroelastic modeling and modeling of drivetrains.
  • Implementation of applied statistics techniques for uncertainty quantification, machine learning or Bayesian parameter estimation
  • Experience with model validation with measurement data such as wind and load measurements
  • Experience in scientific programming with interpreted languages – such as Matlab and Python.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required to effectively communicate research findings, as well as a good knowledge of technical English writing. The candidate will need to work as a part of an externally funded project consortium that includes major wind energy industries and research institutions.

    Salary and terms of employment
    The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
