Postdoc in Translational Pharmacology

The translational pharmacology research group at the research units of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy, and Environmental Medicine, University of Southern Denmark, is looking for a full-time postdoctoral researcher. The position will be for three years, starting February 1, 2021.

In recent years, we have built a research group comprising approximately 10 individuals with a background in pharmacy, medicine or biomedicine. We have a well-established cell laboratory working with 3D primary human hepatocytes and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived sensory neurons and Schwann cells. Additionally, we have state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS facilities and advanced immunofluorescent imaging facilities. Our ambition is to contribute with high international quality research and education in translational pharmacology and to create synergy between the qualifications of the group and our many national and international collaborators. Current projects are focused on understanding the role of inflammation and induction on drug metabolism and drug transport and trying to understand molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. We combine clinical studies in patients or healthy volunteers with mechanistic in vitro studies primarily in human cell-models.

The group is led by Tore Bjerregaard Stage who has a background in both in vitro- and clinical studies. The group is engaged in coherent project management and continuing group development and holds at least two social gatherings pr. year. Our research is funded by grants from Lundbeck Foundation, Danish Cancer Society and Novo Nordic Foundation.

Job description

To continue our work with 3D primary human hepatocytes we are looking for a postdoc. Your work will roughly comprise the following (can be adjusted according to your specific profile):

- Induction of drug metabolism and transport in 3D primary human hepatocytes
- Translate and correlate mechanistic in vitro findings with our clinical studies in humans
- Develop assays for determining drug transport in a 3D primary human hepatocyte model

Qualification requirements

As it is evident, you will have a diverse set of tasks and thus you should enjoy keeping track of many simultaneous projects. The successful candidate will have practical experience with in vitro models of drug metabolism or drug transport, ideally both.

In terms of experience, we expect a PhD degree within pharmacology, pharmacy or similar. You should be capable to work both independently and in close collaboration with others. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required. The position includes independent scientific writing and supervision of students as well as teaching at pre-graduate level within pharmacy. You should be interested in contributing both to the scientific armamentarium in our department and to our collegial culture.

You will  refer to associate professor Tore B. Stage in your daily work, but will also be expected to engage in a very active collaboration with the full research group.

Interviews can be performed online if needed. If you will need to relocate to Denmark for the position, both the University and the research group will provide ample support.

Additional information can be obtained by e-mail to Tore B. Stage , +45 65503678).

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
