Postdoc position in Andersen group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher, who have excellent experience in molecular and cellular biology as well as talent for high-throughput and data analyses.
You will enter an active team focused on elucidating epigenomic deregulation and understanding their causal role(s) in primary liver cancer, impact on tumor cell dissemination and drug response. The position requires skills in primary patient-derived cell and organoid culturing, HTS, epi-CRISPR and informatics.

The Research Centre
The Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) is a research centre of excellence for biomedical research, focusing on disease-oriented basic research, at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. BRIC hosts 24 independent research groups that perform basic and translational research aimed to understand diseases like cancer, neurological and metabolic disorders.

Our research
The focus of our research is translational medicine in primary human liver and biliary tract cancers with emphasis on genome-wide and high-throughput techniques in the characterization of tumor heterogeneity, prognostic and predictive biomarker discovery and drug response, to aid novel therapeutics and clinical efficacy. It is our goal to improve diagnosis, clinical decision-making and ultimately patient outcome through translational and pharmacogenomics discoveries. This is facilitated in our Group via interdisciplinary research (molecular biology, medicine and bioinformatics) as well as a strong national and international network of scientific and clinical collaborators.

This project will apply high-throughput CRISPR screening of prospective epigenetic regulators in sophisticated patient-derived cell models to identify genes with previously unknown epigenome regulatory functions and characterize their roles in hepatobiliary cancer initiation and progression. Such work will shed light on novel genome regulation mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets to address key clinical problems, such as chemoresistance and metastasis.

Your job
You will join a research group where we strive to implement new technologies and utilize these to better understand clinical problem. We use advanced culture methodologies and omics-driven strategies to characterize and classify patient subgroups to identify oncogenic drivers and addiction networks with the aim of improving diagnostics and treatment. We unite research directly on patient samples and clinical data with basic molecular in vitro and in vivo models.
Your task would to setup a CRISPR screening of epigenetic regulators. Emphasis will be given to a candidate with background within liver cancer research, CRISPR screening and experience in bioinformatics.

You have the ability to function and trive in a interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. You are independent and able to envision, plan and execute a research project. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competences and experience:


  • You have a PhD or MD/PhD in Molecular medicine or related field
  • You are highly experienced in molecular and cellular biology
  • You have an active interest in interdisciplinary translational reseach
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable but not required:
  • Experience/knowledge in bioinformatics applications
  • Experience/knowledge in liver cancer research (Hepatology)

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 33,224 DKK/ca. 4,430 Euro. An additional 17.1 % monthly contribution to pension will be paid by the employer. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
