Postdoc position in Environmental Geography with a specialization in agricultural transformation in the Global South

Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a two-year postdoc position in the environmental sustainability of food value chains.

The postdoc will be a part of an ongoing research project on traditional and modern food value chains and sustainable upgrading opportunities in the Global South. The postdoc project will conduct research on the impacts of food value chain transformations on the environment. Assessments of environmental impacts will be conducted at field level (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions, pesticide use) and at different nodes of the value chains (e.g waste production). Fieldwork will take place in Thailand.

The successful applicant must master qualitative and quantitative research methods and have a proven record of fieldwork experience, preferably from Asia. Documented skills within farming systems analysis, environmental assessment tools and statistical analysis are also required. Experience with Life Cycle, Assessment and/or with Carbon Footprint methodologies is an advantage.

The successful candidate will be attached to the research group ‘Environment and Society in Developing Countries’ ( at Section for Geography.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment according to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 419.772 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 71.781). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
