Postdoc position in Protein Signaling and cell division

Postdoc position in Protein signaling and cell division

A postdoctoral position is available at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk ), University of Copenhagen.

About CPR and the research group
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, has been established to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and skills, from proteomics, bioinformatics, high-content microscopy, and high-throughput protein production for functional dissection of complex signaling systems.
The Nilsson group focuses on mechanisms of protein phosphatase substrate selection as well as the segregation of chromosomes during cell division. As protein phosphatases are major regulators of cell division these two topics are tightly connected.
The laboratory is equipped with the cutting-edge infrastructure for molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry work. Our group is technically and internationally diverse and embedded in excellent environment for high-quality research and collaboration. The group consistently publishes in top-ranked journals and has outstanding track-record in training the next generation of researchers. We are now looking for a highly motivated and qualified postdoc candidate to join our research group.

Please find more information about the group here: http://www.cpr.ku.dk/research/proteinsignaling/nilsson/

Project description
The project will follow up on our recent discoveries (Hertz et al, Molecular Cell (2016) and Hein et al, Nature Cell Biology (2017) ) on the role of PP2A complexes in coordination of mitotic events and their role in chromosome segregation and spindle assembly checkpoint signaling. The aim is to dissect the underlying molecular mechanisms ensuring tight coordination of cellular signaling during cell division by integrating biochemical, cell based and imaging approaches.

Tentative start date: 1 June 2018.

Qualifications
The candidate should have demonstrated excellent scientific productivity, evidenced by high-quality research publications, be able to conduct independent and creative research, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.

  • The candidates are required to have a PhD degree or equivalent in natural or medical science.
  • Excellent scientific track-record.
  • Expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas would be considered an advantage:
  • Analysis of cell signaling with biochemistry and molecular biology approaches.
  • Genetics and cell biology.
  • Live cell microscopy and analysis of cell division.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.
Place of employment and work
The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk ), University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is ambitious and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science, including microscopy, cryo-EM, and the next generation sequencing. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. For more information on working and living in Denmark visit www.ism.ku.dk (International staff mobility) and www.workingconditions.ku.dk

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary is around 33,200-34,900 DKK plus 17.1 % in pension contribution.
The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for all international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, where the pension will be paid out as salary. For more information about the different pension schemes www.ism.ku.dk/onarrival/pension/

Duration: The duration of the positions is 1 year with a possible extension for up-to 3 years (depending on the performance, and previous employment at the University of Copenhagen).
