Postdoc Position on Quantitative Genetics and Genomics

A postdoc position focusing on modeling quantitative traits in breeding programs intensively exploiting genomic information is available September 1st, 2019 at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG, www.qgg.au.dk/) at Aarhus University. The postdoc will develop models and methods to optimize genomic prediction and estimation of variance components including both genotyped and non-genotyped individuals and on optimum methods to handle genotype by environment interactions. Methods for model evaluation and models comparisons should be developed and implemented. In addition, methods for reducing bias and inflation in genomic prediction of breeding values should be studied. There is funding for 2 years of employment. In case further external funding is procured within the academic area the candidate is estimated obviously qualified for, an extension can be possible for up to a total maximum of 4 years employment as a post doc.

The position is related to collaborative projects with commercial breeding companies and with the goal of developing methods and models that can be implemented in practical applications. The candidate will work on the analysis of analysis of data from ongoing experiments, from ongoing commercial selection programs. Results and hypothesis will be verified using complex stochastic simulation models. The position provides excellent possibilities for access to state of the art tools for simulation and for the analysis of complex genomic large scale datasets, writing publications, collaboration industry partners as well as with other research groups.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, quantitative genomics, statistics or related fields.
  • Strong interest in use of highly stochastic models for the analysis of phenotypic and genomic data.
  • Proficiency in conducting large-scale computations.
  • Good understanding of methods used in genomic prediction and selection for using single step methods complex traits in commercial populations.
  • Understanding of commercial breeding programs.
  • Good skills in oral and written communication in English.
  • Ability to work in a large and diverse group of researchers, and collaborate with national and international partners form research and industry.

The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University (AU) is a major center for research and education in quantitative genetics, quantitative genomics, and breeding. It comprises more than 15 senior staff and a large group of PhDs and Post Docs. The center is part of the Department for Molecular Biology and Genetics and is located at the AU Foulum campus (for the locations of the department see www.mbg.au.dk/en/contact/how-to-find-the-department/).
Movement to the main campus in Aarhus is expected in 2020. QGG provides a very dynamic and internationally orientated environment with strong collaborations with relevant industrial partners and with several other leading international research groups in the research area.
