Postdoc position on the role of membrane-less organelles on kinase signalling and membrane protein trafficking at the Department of Molecular Biology

Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoc position at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and the interdisciplinary consortium BOUNDLESS ( The position is funded by a grant from Novo Nordisk Foundation, and is initially for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The starting date is 1st of August 2021 or soon thereafter.

Job description
The project aims to understand how membrane-less organelles formed by liquid-liquid phase separation affect kinase reactions and membrane vesicles. The project will use in vitro systems reconstituted from purified components as well as in cultured mammalian cells.

This position is part BOUNDLESS (, an interdisciplinary consortium funded by an interdisciplinary synergy grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. BOUNDLESS was formed to study signalling in membrane-less organelles, and involves an integration that spans from physics and modelling to clinical medicine. The project involves close collaboration with the other BOUNDLESS labs led by Lene N. Nejsum, Frans Mulder and Siewert-Jan Marrink (Groningen), and the candidate is expected to act as co-supervisor for BOUNDLESS PhD students.

Your profile
The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, nanoscience or similar, and a good track record. Experience with some of the following techniques is required: Recombinant protein expression and purification, enzyme activity assays, protein interaction studies, mammalian cell culture and fluorescence microscopy. Furthermore, we expect an interest in interdisciplinarity and good collaboration skills.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Letter of reference
If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
