Postdoc position within Marine Spatial Modelling (957263)

Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a Postdoc position within the topic: “Marine Spatial Modelling with focus on site selection for mussel aquacultures and marine spatial planning. The position is 2 years with possible extension and available from as soon as possible. 
The candidate’s research will be based on an existing project and should therefore focus on development, test and application of GIS based models to increase our understanding of the growth potential of blue mussels in Danish coastal waters and contribute to establishing a scientific foundation for using blue mussels as a mitigation tool to improve marine water quality.  
The project will result in an optimized approach to identify areas suitable for mussel production based on advanced GIS modelling. This includes handling, interpolation and combination of large datasets, national scale GIS modelling, web GIS implementation and scientific documentation. 
The successful candidate must have a PhD in environmental sciences, marine ecology, geoinformation, geography or a closely related field. Documented experience with GIS (preferably ArcGIS) and web GIS is a requirement and data analysis experience (preferably using MAT-lab or SAS/R) is a clear advantage. 
Department of Bioscience is organized in 18 different sections working within the areas of freshwater, marine and terrestrial science, wild life ecology, biodiversity, physiology and ecotoxicology. The postdoc position is situated in the Section for Applied Marine Ecology and Modelling that has a main focus on developing and apply statistical, dynamic and GIS based modelling to study the interactions between human activity and marine ecosystem quality, structure and functioning. The section is widely involved in advisory work for the Ministry of Environment and Food. 
The activities take place at a national and international level with main activities in Denmark and Northern Europe.

Application procedure 
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation ( ).
