Postdoctoral Accociate of Phothonics and Nanophotonics at the Mads Clausen Institute

A 2-year postdoc position in optical characterization of nanoparticles and sensor technology from September 1, 2019 until August 31, 2021 is open at SDU NanoSYD, Mads Clausen Institute, (www.sdu.dk/nanosyd) at the University of Southern Denmark (Sonderborg Campus).

The postdoc is expected to carry out research among others within the project "CheckNano” supported by the Interreg Deutschland-Danmark program. The project combines the acquired competencies of nanotechnology (SDU NanoSYD, SDU NanoOptics), biotechnology and food technology (Hochschule Flensburg) and sensor technology (R & D Center Kiel GmbH, Coherent GmbH, CCM – electronic engineering) in an interdisciplinary way to create a new, fast and reliable test for the identification of essential toxic nanoparticles. The work involves optical characterization, nanofabrication and sensor development, supported by computational nanophotonic methods.

The postdoc is also expected to be actively involved in the supervision of MSc and PhD students affiliated with SDU NanoSYD as well as in writing grant applications supporting the research at SDU NanoSYD.

Potential candidates for the postdoctoral position are expected to have a relevant PhD degree and documented research experience within nanophotonics, plasmonics and/or microfluidics. Experience in advanced nanofabrication and optical characterization of particles will also be considered as an advantage. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree.

The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
