Postdoctoral fellowship in RNA biology and transcription at Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM)

We are offering a postdoctoral position to a talented and highly motivated researcher interested in investigating transcriptional regulation and co-transcriptional processing. The successful candidate will be employed in the Gregersen group at the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

About the lab and the institute
The Gregersen group was established in the Spring 2021. The group focuses on various aspects of co-transcriptional regulation primarily mediated by RNA-binding proteins. Recent papers include: Gregersen et al. 2019 Cell [PMID: 31104839] and Gregersen et al. 2020 Nature Protocols [PMID: 31915390].
We use a wide range of experimental approaches including cell biology, next-generation sequencing (RNA-seq, TTchem-seq, mNET-seq, ChIP-seq, CLIP etc.) as well as molecular biology techniques (western blots, immunoprecipitations, peptide pull-outs and proteomics) to decipher the molecular mechanisms of factors involved in co-transcriptional regulation and the composition of transcription complexes in human cells.
The Gregersen group represents cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and training and is located in modern laboratories in the Mærsk tower at the Panum Institute within the ICMM. We have access to state-of-the-art facilities for cell engineering, next-generation sequencing, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometry.

Project description
The work will be focused on elucidating the mechanisms of RNA polymerase associated factors. The main focus will be on novel factors interacting with the C-terminal domain (CTD) of actively elongating RNA polymerase complexes with the aim to understand how these factors influence transcriptional regulation and co-transcriptional processing of the newly made RNA transcript. The project involves generation of human cell lines using CRISPR/Cas technologies combined with profiling of transcription using a combination of RNA-seq approaches (RNA-seq, TTchem-seq, etc.) as well as proteomics investigation of RNAPII complexes. The role of the candidate will primarily be to perform experiments in the laboratory, analyse and interpret data, scientific publication, as well as attend scientific seminars and conferences.

Principal supervisor is Lea H. Gregersen, ICMM, leag@sund.ku.dk

Start: November 2021 or soon thereafter.

Duration: 3 years as a postdoctoral researcher.

Your profile

  • You have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology or similar
  • Keen interest in transcription and/or RNA biology
  • You possess research experience and publication records in relevant fields, ideally with prior experience in transcription, gene expression or RNA biology
  • Previous experience with high-throughput sequencing is an advantage but not a requirement
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
