Postdoctoral Position in Petroleum Geosystem, Aarhus University 971949

The department of Geoscience (http://geo.au.dk/) at Aarhus University invites application for a 3-years postdoctoral position in petroleum geosystem to start from August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates are required to hold a PhD degree in geology, sedimentology, organic petrology and geochemistry or any other related subject at the time of appointment. International PhD or postdoc experience with extensive publication record would be beneficial. The candidates are expected to be able to perform extensive laboratory work and physically demanding field work.

The main responsibility of the successful candidate is to perform research in the frame of the newly established Chair in Petroleum Geosystem at the department of Geoscience. It is expected that the candidate present research at scientific meetings and publish in international peer-reviewed journals. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. The ability and will to work independently, mentor graduate students and assist them during laboratory and field-work are expected.

Important areas of work for the successful applicant will include research in unconventional petroleum systems, with specific focus on organic matter evolution and organic/inorganic geochemistry and mineralogy of tight source rock reservoirs.

To be successful you will have:

  • Strong lab expertise in petrology and geochemistry or other related area to unconventional petroleum geosystems.
  • The ability to work effectively and independently as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
  • Being able to initiate new ideas and participate in application of research grants.
  • A demonstrable commitment to publication of original results at an international level in quality, peer review journals.

Specific experience in organic petrology and geochemistry of unconventional petroleum systems will be considered advantageous.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
