Principal Data Scientist / Bioinformatician in early research

About the Area

Computational Research is a growing area within R&D at Novo Nordisk which provides various scientific software applications and data science support to the early research projects, such as descriptive and predictive machine learning models of biological and chemical data, bioinformatics, molecular modelling, and computational protein design. Furthermore, large digitalization programs are driven by the area, providing accelerated learning through scientific data capture and advanced analytics platforms. The area collaborates closely with the other areas of early research to identify novel drug targets and design new therapeutic biologics, operating globally by collaborating with research sites in DK, UK, US, and China.

The position

Your main responsibility will be to drive the advanced analytics platform for NGS data from different omics data sources and display technologies as well as to develop and apply state-of-the art sequence analysis methods and predictive technologies. The position requires collaboration with different departments within early research such as bioinformatics, advanced analytics, molecular modelling, and peptide and antibody technologies, and thus, requires engaging with stakeholders across the multidisciplinary and international organisation.

The ideal candidate would engage both in target identification and de novo variant generation and has a general curiosity and excellent track record within drug discovery, bioinformatics, and/or modern machine learning technologies. An important aspect of the position is also to productionise the data pipeline and analysis from the instruments to analytics platforms, provide guidance on experimental designs, and develop the strategy and scientific leadership for NGS analysis.

Qualifications

  • PhD within a computational life-science discipline, such as Bioinformatics or Data Science on biological data, and at least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry or academic group leadership.
  • Excellent track record and broad knowledge within applying data science to challenging life-scientific problems (i.e. of NGS data and general sequence analysis algorithms, predictive and generative models). Experience in the areas of either target identification or biologics design is considered a plus.
  • Experience within programming, statistical analysis, machine learning, cloud computing and productionizing data analysis workflows is considered a must.
  • Proven ability to initiate and lead strategic technology development projects, cross-departmental teams and/or external collaborations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic setting, a positive attitude towards challenges, and great communication skills to thrive in a multidisciplinary, collaborative working environment.
