Production Manager - Denmark

For Ball Beverage Packaging in Fredericia, Denmark, we are seeking a Production Manager with high focus on people management, coaching, training and strong skills in production management and optimization

The plant is a production unit, and the function as Production Manager is therefore mainly related to production areas and issues.

Reference and relations
The position reports to the Plant Manager at Ball Fredericia.
As Production Manager you will have 9 colleagues reporting directly to you: Six Shift Managers (responsible for daily management of production staff), two employees working with graphics/print and one focusing on continuous improvement. In total you will be responsible for approx. 135 colleagues.

You will be part of the Management Group in Fredericia with 7 managers and you will work in close cooperation with Production Managers at other plants in Europe.

The Position
As Production Manager you will be overall responsible for managing and optimizing a high-speed production running 24/7. Your main focus areas will be on safety, all production processes, leadership, environment, quality and standards and not least to coach and support your managers in the continuous effort to develop a strong team spirit with high engagement.

You will be responsible for planning, organizing and running the production based on line load plans and other input from production management in UK.

The key responsibilities and main focus of the position are:

  • Overall responsibility for production management, processes and performance – ensuring a smooth production flow, high efficiency and right production quality and quantity.
  • Close and participating coaching and mentoring of shift managers/coordinators.
  • HSE responsibility for the production and the staff.
  • Continuously reviewing and improving processes, methods and standards to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate activities of various plant functions to ensure effective utilization of resources, equipment, materials and people.
  • Install and develop programmes and processes for continuous improvement including LEAN and HSE.
  • Being an active and constructive member of the Management Team - with commitment, sense of ownership and willingness to challenge and improve methods and ways of doing and thinking in the company.
  • Develop and implement suitable consultative and communication process for all employees.
  • Implement and maintain Six Sigma methods and mindset – and obtaining Black Belt status.
  • Participate in negotiating collective agreements and running co-operation with local trade union representatives (3F and Dansk Metal).

The ideal candidate has +5 years of experience from a high speed and high volume – preferably from a matrix organisation / group-structured company.

Specifically, the candidate should have:

  • Comprehensive professional skills and knowledge within production management in general and managing people and processes in particular.
  • A successful track record from managing and developing a high tech and high speed production.
  • Experience with creating results and develop staff culture via managing and coaching of managers.
  • Experience from managing HSE programmes and processes.
  • Ability to set up KPI goals and implement processes focusing on optimisation and improvement.
  • Strong understanding of modern LEAN methods and tools, e.g. Kaizen, SMED, 5S, Six Sigma etc. and experience from implementing and running LEAN programmes.
  • Insights into industrial production and handling issues related to different stakeholders.
  • Strong IT-skills – significant experience from daily use of Excel and a larger ERP-system.
  • A technical and/or business degree equaling the job and requirements (preferably MSc).
  • Preferably Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Comfortable with English as daily work language and language for internal reporting.

Work hours are 37 hours per week, however, overtime is considered part of the salary.
