Professor in child mental health and psychopathology.

A part time professorship (12,33 hrs. a week) in child mental health and psychopathology specifically targeted at the effects among young children is vacant at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) in Copenhagen from September 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter and for a period of five years.

The NIPH has nine research programs who collaborate closely. Some of the institute´s researchers deal with surveys of the health and health behavior in the Danish population, some with register-based research. At the NIPH we are determined to research in topics that apply to major public health challenges – and to being among the best in utilizing the methods that support this research. 

We can offer an interesting position in an inspiring research environment with opportunities for collaboration with colleagues from different scientific disciplines, including public health, medicine, anthropology and sociology.

The applicant must have a strong academic background and must be able to demonstrate significant contributions to development of research in mental health among infants and small children. Further development of own research in child health problems and psychopathology in infancy and early childhood through publication and fundraising activities will be expected. 

Qualifications must be documented by published papers of international standard. 

The professor will also be expected to

- participate in knowledge exchange with society and strong communication skills
- participate in raising external funding,
- be responsible for the educational guidance of post-docs and PhD students, and
- participate in assessment of students at BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

Furthermore, management skills as well as strategic qualifications are desirable.

The applicant must be able to document:

  • Research leadership
  • Broad experience with clinical epidemiological research in children’s psychopathology
  • A broad portfolio of teaching in children’s mental health 
  • Experience with traditional university-related tasks such as PhD supervision, 
  • Study management and an international network in research
